Secret Circle

Secret Circle is a book written by L.J. Smith, who also wrote the Vampire Diaries series, but has recently been adapted to a TV series as well. While I have yet to read the trilogy, I have not missed an episode, which is on Thursday nights at 9/8c on the CW.
The show is about a group of teenage witches who are faced with challenges way beyond their years and experience. Cassie Blake is the main character who had no idea of what she was before her mom was killed; forcing her to move in with her grandmother in the town her mom had grown up.  After only being in town for a few days, the rest of the circle (witches whose powers have been passed down generation to generation), confronts her about her powers. After the group of witches “close” their Circle strange things begin to happen, demonic possession, lust for power, dark secrets from the past, and even the death of one of their own. In addition to, we have recently learned that several members of the circle had dark magic passed down and are being tempted by its evil influence. This show also has the usual teenage romance conflicts as well as plenty of drama.
Circle Members:
Cassie Blake: The final addition to the Circle after her mother was killed.
Diana Meade: Being the first to discover her “Book of Spells”, Diana becomes the leader of the Circle.
Faye Chamberlain: Faye’s thirst for power has repeatedly put the circle in harm’s way.
Adam Conant: Even though Adam has been dating Diana for years, his instant attraction for Cassie has put his relationship to the test.
Melissa: Melissa has been Faye’s best friends and tag-a-long for years, but due to a recent tragedy, she had begun to question her loyalties.
Nick Armstrong: Nick was the “bad boy” of the group, but after falling for Melissa, he had begun to straighten up his life but came to an untimely death.
Jake Armstrong: After the death of his brother, Jake became connected to the circle in the most unexpected way.
I hope you all check out this series it is fully of suspense, romance, temptation, and unexpected twists!

Being Human

All information and graphics from this post were taken from http://www.syfy.com/beinghuman/

Being Human is on Mondays at 9/8c and is on its second season.
The main characters in this show are:
Aidan: Aidan is a Vampire who is trying to “give it a shot” at being human. He works at the hospital as a nurse and is attempting to drink blood only from hospital bags. Unfortunately, the local vampires, as well as the council, do not agree with his newly found lifestyle in addition to him living with a werewolf.  The constant temptation combined with the pressure he feels from the other vampires leaves him struggling to not become the monster he was for centuries.

Josh: Josh works at the same hospital as Aidan but works as an orderly. While out camping one night with his friend, they were attacked by a wolf. Josh’s friend was killed and Josh was scratched. When the next full moon arrived, Josh was astonished when he transformed into a monster, a werewolf. Freaking out, he ran away from his family and fiancĂ© and moved to Boston. One night, Josh is jumped by a group of vampires and is saved by Aidan. Ever since that night, Aidan and Josh have been best friends attempting to hold on to their humanity and live as normal of a life as possible.

Sally: Josh and Aidan decided to rent a house together and after they are all moved in, they meet Sally. Sally is a ghost who had recently died in the house. At first, Sally is still “caught up” on her fiancĂ©, Danny, and would make excuses for the guys to call him over. However, after finding her engagement ring in the pipes, Sally began to remember her death. She had accidently dropped her ring down the bathroom sink while washing her hands and after telling Danny they began to argue. He accused her of cheating and said that she probably took it off and lost it and was just making excuses. As Sally began to walk away, Danny pushed her and she fell down the stairs and died instantly. From there on, her mission became to make Danny “pay”.

Once Upon A Time!

Several fantasy television series were introduced in 2011; my favorite is Once Upon A Time. At first I was hesitant about this show and thought it sounded cheesy and childish, however, I quickly threw that assumption away. Not only do I enjoy this show, but my boyfriend, parents, and many of my friends are already hooked. This show airs Sundays at 8/7 central but you can also check it out online at http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time#linkId-Hashtags-#OnceUponATime;#OnceABC where they have full episodes, games, photos, and more.

What is Once Upon A Time about?
According to Executive Producer of the show,
We kept circling back to the idea of fairytales. The very first stories that you hear when you're a kid. They're full of magic and heroics and fear and joy. But we also found fairytales are full of all these unanswered questions. Like why is Grumpy grumpy? Why is Geppetto so lonely that he'd actually carve a little boy out of wood? And did the Evil Queen really try to kill Snow White simply because of vanity? With Once Upon A Time, we set out to explore those questions and not re-tell these stories but attempt to dig beneath what we all know and try to discover something new.
- Adam Horowitz, Co-Creator/Executive Producer
It all begins on Emma Swans 28th birthday when a 10 year old boy shows up on her door step proclaiming that he is her son that was given up for adoption. He demands that she return with him home to Storybrooke, Maine because he believes she is the “savior” that will break a curse. Even though she does not believe him in the slightest, she decides to return with him to make sure that he has the life she always meant for him to have. After meeting Henry’s adopted mom, who is also the mayor and as Henry believes, the “Evil Queen”, she decides to stay in town. In the episodes to follow, we plunged deeper and deeper into the lives of the characters while uncovering pieces of their forgotten pasts.

What Fairytale Stories and Characters do we meet?
Snow White
Price Charming
The Huntsman
Cinderella and her Prince
Rumplestiltskin
Evil Queen (Regina)
Jiminy Cricket
Geppetto
Pinocchio
7 Dwarfs
Hansel and Gretel
Red Riding Hood
Maleficent (Witch from Sleeping Beauty)
Aladdin's genie

And Many More to Come!

Underworld Series

The Underworld Series
In my opinion, Underworld is by far the best fantasy movie of the 21st century. Since the newest installment to the series was just released, I figured it would be a great starting point for my posts. The order of the movies in the series is as follows:
Underworld: released September 19, 2003
Underworld: Evolution: released January 20, 2006
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans: released January 23, 2009
Underworld: Awakened: released January 20, 2012
A great source for information about the Underworld Series is http://underworld.wikia.com/wiki/Underworld_Wiki even though this site can be edited by anyone, it allows you to gain insight into the series. Two of the main characters that appear in this series are:
Selene: Selene is the protagonist in three of the movies. She was turned into a Vampire by Viktor after her entire family was massacred. After six centuries of hunting down lycans to avenge her family, she learns that Viktor had killed her family to cover up the tomb that imprisons William (the first Lycan). Selene later falls in love with Michael Corvin, the first hybrid (both vampire and lycan), who is a descended of Alexander Corvinus, the father of both races. In Underworld: Awakened, Selene is held captive for 12 years by the humans and after being freed she finds out that she and Michael have a daughter, Eve.
Michael Corvin: Michael is a human descendant of Alexander Corvinus. He was hunted down by lycans because they believed that his bloodline would allow for the perfect combination of the lycan and vampire traits to transform him into the first hybrid. With Selene’s help, they were able to defeat both surviving elders, Viktor and Marcus. After several years of hiding, Michael and Selene were captured by the humans while trying to flee the country. We were lead to believe that he was killed in pursuit, however, at the end of Underworld: Awakened we learn the truth!
To read about the rest of the characters from the Underworld series check out the link listed above. I highly suggest that you watch this entire series; they are full of action, suspense and romance that allows for both genders to enjoy!

Let the Fantasy Begin!

Welcome to Your Guide to Everything Fantasy!
First, a little information about myself, I am a senior at Illinois State University studying business where I inspire to become a manager for a large corporation. Even thought I attend school full-time and also work, I still find time to read and watch movies. Fantasy has always been my main area of interest when it comes to content that I enjoy most, particularly vampire!
This blog is dedicated to the discussion of a wide array of fantasy content. This will cover fantasy books, movies, and television shows which introduce characters ranging from your everyday humans, to vampires, werewolves, fairies, trolls, demons, and much more! I have personally read and watched well over one hundred books and movies related to fantasy and have gotten my friends and family hooked as well. For instance, when I watch a television series that I really enjoy I tell my friends about it and before you know it we have weekly gatherings where we get together to watch and discuss. Therefore, I also feel confident in giving you my personal recommendations on material that I believe will interest various age groups of both genders. Each post will cover a specific fantasy book, movie, or T.V. show while also covering background information on some of the creatures that the material talks about.
In addition to my discussion and recommendations, I would also enjoy hearing your suggestions and comments on the material. This blog will also allow you to access the products that interest you quickly and efficiently. So Let The Fantasy Begin!
