After I received my Kindle for Christmas back in December
2010, I went on a reading spree where I read over 50 books in 3 months. I came
across Amanda Hocking’s books on the Kindle Store for only $.99 and they
sounded really interesting. One of her series that I feel in love with was the Trylle Trilogy. There are three books in the series, Switched, Torn, and Ascend.
According to Amanda Hocking’s Blog, “When Wendy Everly was
six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill
her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have
been right. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she
never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not
sure she wants to be a part of it”.
In further detail, Wendy finds out that she belongs to a
species of trolls that are accustomed to switching their babies at birth with
wealthy human newborns so that they can get their parent’s inheritance when
they become of age. This money is supposed to be brought into the Trylle
society to help them flourish. While
most children have no problem with this realization and welcome their new lives
as a troll, Wendy does not want any part in their world. Unfortunately, she has
no choice after she discovers that she is the princess.
Amanda has recently decided to have the series re-published
by St. Martin’s and its sister company Pan Macmillian. She believes it will
help her build an international fan base and reach markets she has not been
able to reach with her eBooks. She has also mentioned that a producer may be
interested in adapting her series into a movie sometime in the near future. For
more information on the series and Amanda Hocking’s check out her blog page at http://amandahocking.blogspot.com/p/short-stories-etc.html.
